Christy Hinnant
(North Carolina, USA)
Platform: V.O.I.C.E.S. Against Sexual Assault
Christy Hinnant has shared her platform turned nonprofit, “V.O.I.C.E.S Against Sexual Assault” throughout her reign, which is about helping victims through their healing process as they become survivors and find POWER in their story. She has partnered with other nonprofits such as RAINN and is a part of their Speaker Bureau as she continues to share her story, advocate and be a voice for all sexual assault victims. Through her nonprofit, Christy holds bi-weekly support group to allow victims a safe place to go as they cope through their trauma and share their healing. She has also created a yearly empowerment retreat for victims to attend. Christy has created bracelets that have the word POWER etched on them to remind survivors that there is POWER in their story. The POWER bracelets have shipped to over 25 states and 12 different countries. All proceeds go towards V.O.I.C.E.S. Against Sexual Assault. She was born and raised in Miami, Florida, but grew to love the great state of North Carolina after her husband, Master Sergeant Jesse Hinnant, was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. Christy also served eight years in the Army as a Human Resources Sergeant. While on a convoy during her tour to Iraq in 2007, her vehicle was struck by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Christy met her husband while they were stationed together at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida in 2010. Their friendship quickly blossomed into a wonderful romance and they were married in October 2012. Together they have two young boys. Christy graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and is a full-time graduate student pursuing her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health at Southern New Hampshire University, with an expected graduation date in May 2021. Pageant Experience: Her very first pageant was in 2014 five months after having her first son. She had never completed in a pageant before and decided that in order to prove to herself that she could step outside of her comfort zone, she would do something new. That year, she become Mrs. North Carolina America 2015. She knew her journey wasn’t over and decided to compete in the Mrs. United States system in 2018. She didn’t place and that was okay; she knew that you grow from your failures, or not winning. It was a learning experience for her and grew from it. She then went on to compete as Mrs. North Carolina Universal in the Mrs. USA Universal pageant and eventually took home the international title of Mrs. Universal 2019 in August. What is your greatest achievement? Aside from the beautiful family my husband and I have created. Being able to battle through this horrible event that happened to me 14 years ago and being able to find my own VOICE. Finding my voice to tell my story, to fight back, to encourage others, and show them that they also have a voice. That there is POWER in not only my story, but in their story and in your story. Making a difference and encouraging other victims as they go through the healing process to become a survivor! There is POWER in your story! |
